20-Something Free Diver Dies At Crystal Cove

LAGUNA BEACH (CBSLA.com)  —  A 20-something free diver was killed Saturday afternoon near Laguna Beach.

The victim died at Crystal Cove State Park, authorities said.

The victim -- one of two Orange County men in their 20s diving about 400 yards from shore and to depths of 45 feet -- didn't emerge from the water after a dive. The victim's friend flagged down a passing boat and lifeguards were notified about 1:35 p.m., California State Parks spokesman Kevin Pearsall told the Orange County Register.

The man's body was recovered about 3 p.m., Pearsall told the newspaper.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital, The Register reported.

His name was withheld pending notification of his family.
