Water Main Break Floods Underground Parking Garage In Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Crews on Wednesday worked to repair a water main that burst within a building in Orange County.

Just before 2 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire alarm located in the 4100 block of MacArthur Boulevard at Von Karman Avenue, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department.

Upon their arrival, crews located a significant water leak in the area.

A preliminary investigation revealed security officers noticed significant flooding inside of a parking structure located at the building.

At least five vehicles became submerged in water within the garage.

The building was evacuated, however, no injuries were reported.

According to the Irvine Ranch Water District, water has been turned off in the area.

The westbound lanes of Von Karman Avenue between MacArthur and Birch remain closed due to flooding until further notice.

Vehicles can pass through the center medium, officials said.

Traffic is expected to be congested in the area during the clean up process.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m., water service was restored in the area with the exception of the building that was initially flooded.

At this time, it remains unclear how many residents have been affected by the incident.
