Man Arrested In Connection With Deadly Altercation In Pasadena

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives on Monday announced the arrest of a 39-year-old homeless man in connection with a deadly altercation that took place in Pasadena.

According to the Pasadena Police Department, Manuel Castillo, has been booked into the Pasadena Jail on suspicion of homicide.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, officers received a 911 call from a witness reporting a man lying on the ground in a parking lot located in the 500 block of South Fair Oaks Avenue.

Upon their arrival, paramedics provided medical aid to an unconscious, 64-year-old Hispanic man.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

The Coroner's office has not yet determined the cause of death.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was involved in an altercation with Castillo before he fell to the ground.

Castillo allegedly fled from the scene after the fight. He was later located and taken into custody in the 400 block of South Arroyo Parkway.

Due to a medical issue, Castillo was been transferred to the L.A. Sheriff's County Jail. He is being held on $1 million bail.

The investigation is ongoing.
