'WeHoans' Parody Video Helps Take Some Of The Sting Out Of Impending Traffic Nightmare

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) —  Did you miss the first "WeHoans" parody video?

You are technically alone. The parody of the "Saturday Night Live" spoof of California drivers, "The Californians," already has more than 100,000 views on YouTube.

The City of West Hollywod enlisted the help of popular drag queens to create a series of videos to explain, humorously -- of course -- a month-long closure of a busy stretch of La Cienega set to start Monday.

The parodies are spot on (down to the blonde wigs and folks sounding, well, a bit wiggy.) The drag queens, notably drag stars Willam and Bianca Del Rio, are already popular from shows like "RuPaul's Drag Race."

West Hollywood's Mayor, Lindsay Horvath, thinks the video send ups are the perfect vehicles to alert the public.

"I mean, the truth is people are paying attention to the videos because of how fun it is. And they're actually listening to ways to get around the street closure -- unlike a lot of times where people are like 'Ugh I hit that street closure, why didn't I know about it?,'" says Horvath.

Not all drivers are laughing at what they predict will be a major inconvenience and month-long headache.

"I don't like having to endure traffic conditions of this magnitude," said driver Andre Allenberg.

Even so, manymotorist  admire the city's creative approach to inform the public.

"It really threw me off track," said Christina Martinez

Two more episodes of "The WeHoans" will be posted on YouTube and West Hollywood's website.
