Fire Crews Contain 189-Acre Fire In Simi Valley

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Ventura County fire crews on Saturday morning continued to douse a brush fire in Simi Valley that scorched 189 acres as authorities earlier had asked nearby residents to shelter in place. The fire was 100 percent contained as of Saturday morning.

The fire was first reported around 3:30 p.m. on Friday near the Wood Ranch neighborhood and is threatening as many as 500 homes in the area, authorities said. No evacuations were ordered. The fire grew to about 100 acres shortly before 6 p.m. and then to 189 acres around 9 p.m., the Ventura County Fire Department said.

About 150 firefighters from multiple agencies were on the scene. One Los Angeles County firefighter and one Ventura County firefighter were being treated for minor injuries.

A separate fire burned along the 118 Freeway in Simi Valley earlier on Friday after a truck veered over the side of the road.
