Redondo Beach Man Suspected Of Fatally Shooting Woman During Domestic Dispute

REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A 22-year-old man remained in custody on Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman during a barricade situation in Redondo Beach.

According to the Redondo Beach Police Department, Roy Rodriguez, of Redondo Beach, is being held on $500,000 at the Redondo Beach City Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.

A murder charge is expected to be filed, said Lt. Joe Hoffman.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers were sent to a home located in the 2500 block of Graham Avenue for report of shots fired.

Police said a caller who reported the incident said a woman in her 20s had been shot in the head by a man inside of the home.

Upon their arrival, authorities set up a containment area and negotiated with Rodriguez on the phone.

After about 30 minutes, Rodriguez surrendered to officers.

Paramedics transported the woman to a hospital for treatment of an apparent gunshot wound where she later died.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.

An update on her condition was not immediately available, however, officers described the wound as being life threatening.

Four others who were inside of the home during the incident, including a small child, escaped without injury.

According to police, the relationship between Rodriguez and the victim has not yet been determined. However, officers believe the incident was a result of a domestic dispute.

Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in court on Friday in Torrance.
