Homicide Detectives Investigate Shooting Death Of Man In Compton

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives on Thursday investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in Compton.

Shortly before 3 a.m., deputies were sent to the area of East 134th Street at Alameda Street for report of an assault with a deadly weapon call for service, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located an adult Hispanic man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds while lying on the street.

Authorities pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed an African American man exited a black truck and opened fire on the victim.

The suspect then drove southbound on Alameda Street away from the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
