'Jackass' Star Steve-O Taken To Jail After Going Skyward In Anti-SeaWorld Stunt

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  He said he needed to make an anti-SeaWorld statement on Sunday evening.

"Jackass" star Steve-O instead ended up needing to make bail.

The London-born 41-year-old animal rights activist asked his supporters on Facebook to help bail him out.

His last posting, made about 8:45 pm. said "Anyone wanna bail me out of jail?" The post (and a series of profanity-laced videos) had more than 900,000 views in an hour and more than 22,000 "likes."

Steve-O (real name Stephen Gilchrist Glover)  planned a live 7 p.m. event saying on Saturday he knew it would land him in trouble.

As a member of the "Jackass" family of daredevils who are known for outlandish and often gross and sexual stunts, Steve-O planned on "going really high up in the air" to make his point. (He carried with him a large  bag that said "SeaWorld Sucks" on the side.)

He apparently climbed up a high crane in the 6900 block of W. Selma Avenue with the Hollywood sign as his backdrop (his broadcast cut in and out so it was unclear exactly how he did it.) He had a wireless mic and hand-held camera and "two drone dudes."

Within an hour of his climb, he was greeted below by a series of patrol cars and firefighters below.First responders arrived on scene thinking they had a possible suicidal jumper on their hands.

Steve-O  lit fireworks and hung a large inflatable killer whale on the crane.

"I'm 150 feet up in the air and (expletive deleted) there are cops everywhere. It's a beautiful night in Hollywood," he said.

After he climbed down the crane, the LAPD arrested Steve-O.

Even his biggest fans questioned his sanity and, presumably, the waste of first responder personnel.

"U idiot," wrote Dustin Talbot.
