Suspect Arrested In Home Invasion Attack In Granada Hills
GRANADA HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles man accused of attempted to sexually assault a 62-year-old house keeper in Granada Hills remained in custody on Friday.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Kevin William Las was arrested for assault with the intent to commit rape during a burglary on Thursday night.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Las allegedly approached a resident located in the 17000 block of Michaeline Street and attempted to convince her to let him in her house. In fear, she refused and called 911.
About five minutes later, Las is accused of approaching a second home, located in the 19000 block of San Jose Street, and forcing his way inside when a female housekeeper answered the door, police said.
According to police, Las physically assaulted the victim and attempted to sexually assault her.
The housekeeper fought back however, which caused him to flee from the home.
The homeowner, Alice Gratias, 92, explained to authorities that the crime occurred when she left her housekeeper of 30 years alone in the home while she ran an errand.
She shared the housekeeper's account of the incident:
"He just bounced in on her, knocked her down," Gratias said. "She got up and he was trying to kiss her and he knocked her down but she got up and she gave him a good kick."
Las is being held on $1 million at the Los Angeles Police Department.
