Police Pursuit In El Monte Comes To End In Mobile Park

SOUTH EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Police were in pursuit of a vehicle in the San Gabriel Valley on Tuesday evening.

The suspect was originally wanted for speeding, according to police. The vehicle, a black sedan, was traveling at speeds of up to 60 mph on surface streets.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was in pursuit as the suspect maintained high speeds and drove through stop signs, narrowly missing other vehicles.

A sheriff's helicopter kept a spotlight on the suspect as he proceeded through surface streets.

A Sheriff's cruiser picked up the pursuit at 9:39 p.m. following the suspect vehicle, who was driving on the wrong side of the road at the time.

It appeared authorities may have deployed a spike strip shortly after 9:45 p.m., though it was not immediately clear if the suspect vehicle made contact with it.

Another spike strip attempt was made at 9:50 p.m. at an intersection, but the suspect continued to drive at high speeds despite a flat driver's side front tire.

The neighborhood where the pursuit was located was reportedly having a community evening, in which there were plenty of residents outside on the sidewalks.

The suspect began traveling at much lower speeds after the second spike strip appeared to be successful.

The pursuit entered a mobile home park at 10:03 p.m.

The suspect's vehicle came to a stop at 10:07 p.m. in the mobile home park, at Riverside and Henry, and appeared to have two hands in the air as deputies had their weapons drawn.

The suspect was out of the vehicle at 10:11 p.m., and appeared to be complying with authorities.
