Special Olympics Team Trains With Help From Calabasas High School Athletes

CALABASAS (CBSLA.com) — Athletes in town for the Special Olympics World Games are meeting local sports enthusiasts for help training.

The Great Britain team will soon be competing against Americans and they called on some help from Calabasas High School athletes.

Student Hailey Roknipur and her teammates are helping with basketball: "I just love the cause and I love how teamwork, especially with basketball, personally. I love seeing people work together. And I love being a part of that."

It's just two days before the opening ceremonies and Great Britain team member Tom Brownsword says he feels good about their odds: "I reckon we're gonna do well. We're all ready and looking forward to start playing our games."

The rhythmic team is polishing their routine. The judo group is hitting the mat. And the swimmers are tightening their strokes.

In just a few short hours of training, the high school athletes say they have a lot to learn from the Special Olympians' attitude.

"Happiness. I think that's an amazing thing. And I think I can learn a lot how to enjoy the game more and not take it so hard sometimes and relax a little," a Calabasas student said.
