Group Of Taggers Suspected Of Fatally Shooting Man Following Confrontation In OC

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Deputies sought the public's help Tuesday to locate a group of taggers who are suspected of fatally shooting a man in Anaheim.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Sunday, deputies were sent to the intersection of Poona Drive and Lullaby Lane for report of a shooting that had just occurred.

Upon their arrival, authorities located two adult men inside of a Ford SUV that was parked in the intersection.

Paramedics transported both men for treatment of gunshot wounds sustained to their upper body area.

One of the victims, a 51-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

According to deputies, the suspect fled from the area on foot with about three to five others.

"Based on the preliminary investigation and information obtained at the scene, it appears the victims were in a confrontation with the subject just prior to the shooting," said Lt. Jeff Hallock.

Detectives said evidence revealed a group of taggers opened fire on the men after they were confronted for spray painting in the street.

Detectives described the suspect as a Hispanic man who is in his late teens to early 20s.

The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to determine a motive for the shooting.

At this time, it remains unclear if the incident was gang-related.

Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Orange County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Unit at (714) 647-7055 or (714) 647-7000.
