LAPD Cracks Down On Distracted Drivers At 5 Valley Intersections

NORTHRIDGE (CBSLA.com) — LAPD officers were out in force Thursday at some of the Valley's busiest intersections.

Thursday's directed traffic enforcement task force took place at several Valley intersections – Tampa Avenue and Victory Boulevard, Chatsworth Street and Reseda Boulevard, Balboa and Burbank boulevards, Sherman Way and Woodman Avenue, and Devonshire Avenue and Reseda Boulevard.

Officers handed out tickets and warnings to offenders in an effort to develop driver awareness and cut down on accidents.

Pete Adam was caught at Reseda Boulevard and Devonshire Avenue in Northridge.

"I've been waiting for a call all day from DWP to work out something, and sure as it could happen, I'm driving through an intersection, phone rings, I grab the phone -- [police] lights," Adam said.

Enforcement was done at those particular intersections because they have been the site of a significant number of accidents leading to severe or fatal injuries, Officer Dan Hankins said.

Dominic Ortiz said he was glad to see the extra enforcement because he walks in the area daily.

"This is a very dangerous intersection," Ortiz said.

Extra officers were used for the task force, which was funded through a grant.
