Power Outages Hit Hollywood, 1,700 LADWP Customers Without Power

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — More than 1,700 Department of Water and Power customers in the Hollywood area were without electricity Wednesday after a pair of outages that occurred blocks apart.

The first outage occurred around 12:40 p.m. near Santa Monica Boulevard and Sycamore Avenue and affected 719 customers, the DWP's Albert Rodriguez said

About an hour later, another outage was reported near Highland and DeLongpre avenues, affecting about 1,000 customers, he said.

Crews were working to restore power, and electricity was already back on for some customers by early afternoon. DWP officials estimated that all the repairs would be completed by 8:30 p.m.

According to the DWP, at least one of the outages was caused by metallic balloons making contact with power lines.
