Police Identify Man Suspected In Killing Of Young Father In Lancaster

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — Detectives in Lancaster hope a newly released photo will help them find a man suspected in the shooting death of a young father.

Demonte Thomas, 27, of Lancaster is wanted in connection with the shooting death of Michael Davis, 22, who was shot six times June 26, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies believe the killer ran over Davis' poodle in a parking lot.

An argument followed over who would pay for veterinary bills.

Detectives say Thomas sped away, then returned and fired numerous shots at Davis.

Davis leaves behind a pregnant girlfriend and a son.

Davis' mother joined community members earlier this month to demand justice for her son's death: "My son didn't deserve this. My son wasn't a gang-banger. He was no thug. He wasn't on the street. Anybody could tell you all he did was love dirtbikes, he loved kids and he loved people. And for him to be gunned down like this is wrong."

Thomas is believed to be armed and dangerous. He's possibly driving a late-model white Chevy Blazer.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
