Carindals' Martinez beats Kershaw in NL Final Vote; Moustakas Wins AL Vote

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez edged out the other four National League nominees to win the National League's Final Vote.  In doing so, he secured the final roster spot on the NL All-Star team.

Martinez edged past Reds' pitcher Johnny Cueto as voting closed Friday at 4pm EST.

Reigning Cy Young Award winner and MVP Clayton Kershaw finished third in the NL voting, despite his stellar performence Wednesday night, in which he went 9 innings and struck out 13 batters.

Martinez earned his 10th win of the season on Thursday night, giving him a record of 10-3 with a 2.52 ERA.

Kershaw's victory on Wednesday improved his record to 6-6, with a 2.85 ERA and major league leading 160 strikeouts.

Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies finished fourth and Jeurys Familia of the New York Mets finished fifth.

Mike Moustakas of the Kansas City Royals took the American League's Final Vote, beating Minnesota's Brian Dozier who finished in 2nd place.

Moustakas is hitting 301 and has seven home runs and 31 RBI's. The American League only had four nominees since Brett Gardner, an original nominee, was added to the roster after Royals outfielder Alex Gordon sustained an injury on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Moustakas is a California native who went to high school at Chatsworth High School. He was the 2nd overall pick of the 2007 MLB Draft.

The AL leader in hits among outfielders, Yoenis Cespedes, finished third in AL voting, while Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts finished fourth.

The 2015 MLB All-Star game will be played on Tuesday, July 14th at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati
