My Favorite Course: Brandon Tierney

Brandon Tierney co-hosts the radio show Tiki & Tierney along with former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber. The show airs in the morning nationally across the CBS Sports Radio network. He also hosts That Other Pregame Show on the CBS Sports Network on Sunday mornings during football season.

Tierney, one of the more entertaining voices on sports radio, started his radio career in Allentown, Pennsylvania. His bright, insightful style quickly found him bigger stages across the country. He's hosted popular sports talk programs in Detroit (mid-days on Sports Radio 1130 The Fan), San Francisco (afternoons on 95.7 The Game) and New York (1050 ESPN Radio).

Tierney's resume on the television side includes appearances as a panelist on SportsNet New York's (SNY) The WheelHouse and contributions to ESPN's Outside the Lines. He also hosted the Red Storm Report on MSG Network with St. John's then-head coach Steve Lavin.

Tierney has been featured on Talkers Magazine's "Heavy Hundred of Sports Talk," highlighting the 100 most important sports radio hosts in America. He received his first New York Emmy in July 2010.

Tierney has covered golf on his programs and is an avid golfer who's played some of the country's best courses. He weighed in on some of his favorites and his appreciation for the sport.

CBS Local Sports: What's your favorite golf course and why?

Tierney: Wente Vineyards, California. Imagine the most scenic, aesthetically pleasing course carved out within a vineyard. That's Wente. Also really enjoyed hacking up Shinnecock and Bethpage Black in New York and Bali Hai in Vegas.

CBS Local Sports: Of the golf courses you haven't played, what course do you most want to play?

Tierney: Augusta and Pebble Beach.

CBS Local Sports: What is your go-to club on the golf course and why?

Tierney: Pretty comfortable with a 3 hybrid. Even when the wheels fall off, I'm usually able to launch one 200+ yards in the general vicinity of the green. Seems to keep an extra snowman or two off the board each round and kick my round back into gear. Easier to manipulate than mid-iron.

CBS Local Sports: What first got you interested in golf?

Tierney: As a means to stay in touch with my college buddies. We all started playing after we graduated, and being from different parts of the Northeast, we based vacations around golf (and general debauchery). Golf was the central theme, and remains so, for our follies. It also scratches our competitive itch, [which] we no longer have with baseball. We all stink, so while the scores are gross, it's always pretty tight coming down 18.

CBS Local Sports: What is your most memorable moment on the golf course?

Tierney: You mean besides snapping irons and tossing drivers into lakes like javelins? My first eagle, which given the current state of my game, seems like a lifetime ago. Driver plus 5 wood to within nine feet of cup... made the putt.
