Buena Park Man Accused Of Lighting Woman's Hair On Fire To Be Arraigned

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A man accused of threatening and assaulting a woman with whom he was in a romantic relationship with is expected to be arraigned Tuesday on multiple counts.

Alejandro Flores of Buena Park stands accused of lighting the woman's hair on fire inside their Buena Park home June 28.

Prosecutors said Flores and the woman lived together with a child relative under the age of 2.

The Orange County district attorney's office said in a statement that Flores and the woman were arguing about the child's pacifier at the time.

He also stands accused of threatening the woman with a firearm if she attempted to leave the home.

The OCDA said in a statement that the woman left the next day while Flores was at work and told relatives, who contacted Buena Park police.

The 33-year-old Flores is also accused of striking the woman in the face Oct. 22, 2014, causing her to sustain a broken nose.

He has been charged with domestic battery with corporal injury, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, and aggravated assault, among other charges, the statement said.

Authorities said Flores, at the time of the alleged crime, was a deputy with the Los Angeles County sheriff's department.

If convicted as charged, Flores faces a maximum term of 25 years and eight months in prison.

Flores is scheduled to be arraigned in Fullerton at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
