Caught On Video: Police Search For Man In Metro Box-Cutter Attack

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — The two men boarded Metro bus line 210 already arguing.

One of them was 36 years old and another looked to be in his late 20s or early 30s.

The first man sat down and it was only moments later that the altercation escalated, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The second man pulled out a box cutter and lunged at the other man.

He slashed the 36-year-old man's face several times before running off the bus at Crenshaw Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue.

"This is of great concern to us as this person attacked the victim when he did not pose a threat to him," said Tom Inocente, a transit detective with the Sheriff's Department.

Officials say the attacker poses a threat to the community and they need help finding him.

Sgt. Paul Valle said, "A crime like this committed on a bus is indeed rare and demands our full attention to identify and apprehend the assailant. That's why in a situation like this, we need someone to step forward and help us identify the person responsible."

The suspect was described as African-American with black hair and brown eyes. He's five-foot-six, 165 pounds and between 28 and 34 years old.

Officials say he's dangerous and those who come across the suspect are urged not to approach him.

Anyone with information about the attacker or the incident is urged to call Det. Inocente or Detective Sgt. Valle at (888) 950-SAFE (7233). Anonymous tips can be made by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), by texting "TIPLA" plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or submitted to lacrimestoppers.org.
