Raiders A No-Show, Chargers Attend Carson NFL Stadium Meeting

CARSON (CBSLA.com) — Representatives from the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders were expected to attend a town-hall meeting in Carson on Monday evening about a proposed NFL stadium in Los Angeles, but the Raiders representatives were a no-show.

Fans excitedly packed the Carson Community Center hoping to hear from representatives from both teams. Raider fans, however, were left disappointed.

"The Raiders and Chargers fans who showed up here expected it," Raider fan Tyrone Butterfield said. "I'm very disappointed."

Despite the Raiders' absence from the meeting, Carson Mayor Albert Robles says he doesn't think it reflects the team's interest in potentially relocating to Carson.

"I wouldn't read too much into it," Robles said. "I know that I've met with the president of the Raiders, and every indication I've seen from him, eyeball to eyeball, every indication to me is that they're committed."

The Chargers' spokesman, meanwhile, says he believes the meeting was a step forward for the prospects of his organization moving to L.A.

"We've made tremendous progress here with the strong support of the city and strong support of the residents of Carson," Mark Fabiani said.

The stadium in Carson, if built, would include a 350-room hotel and 850,000 square feet of commercial space.

Carson remains in a race with Inglewood, which wants to bring the Rams back to Los Angeles.
