Caught On Video: Man Steals Wallet From Disabled Woman As She Talks To His Wife

THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA.com) — Police say a man is wanted on suspicion of stealing the wallet, credit cards and jewelry of a disabled woman he distracted with his family.

Police say the woman was getting gas in Thousand Oaks when she was approached by the man, who was with a woman and one or more children who appeared to be his family. He told the woman he could fix scratches and other minor damage on her car.

Surveillance video shows the man walking around the woman's car for "an extended period of time." At one point, police say the man asked the woman to give her phone number to his wife, and as she did so, he was seen on video reaching into her car and stealing her wallet, crouching beside the driver's door and putting it inside his pants.

He then quickly got into his own car and left with his family.

The suspect was described as a Middle Eastern man, 35-45, heavy-set and driving a black Kia Soul.

Anyone with information about the man's identity can call Sgt. Jason Robarts at (805) 947-8108.
