LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 43-year-old man was attacked by a machete-wielding man and three other suspects Sunday after being pulled off his bicycle in the area of Pico-Union.

The attack occurred near 12th Street and Burlington Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. when four suspects exited a green four-door sedan and attacked the bicyclist, according to LAPD's Lilliana Preciado.

One of the four victims, all of which were described as males between 18 and 20 years old, began hacking at the victim during the assault.

The victim was able to run away, at which point the four suspects returned to the green sedan and drove off. The victim's bike was stolen, along with some money.

Police discovered the victim in the area of Burlington Avenue and 12th Street, and paramedics rushed him to a local hospital.

The victim suffered a skull fracture and had his thumb hacked off by the machete, but was expected to survive his injuries.

The man is in stable condition. Doctors believe the thumb can be reattached.
