Toluca Lake Apartment Building Under Construction Gutted By Fire; 3 Hurt

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Flames engulfed a two-story apartment building under construction in the Toluca Lake area Friday and damaged an adjacent apartment complex, authorities said.

The fire was reported at about 12:20 p.m. in the 4600 block of Riverton Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

Firefighters simultaneously fought fires in two large apartment buildings before declaring a knockdown just before 1:40 p.m., extinguishing it in just over an hour, authorities said.

The initial fire extended into an adjacent building and a common attic, LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

A female in her mid-30s who jumped from the second story of an adjacent building was assessed but declined to be transported.

Another two patients were also treated for injuries, including one firefighter who was transported in stable condition, according to Stewart.

Several parked vehicles were also reported damaged.
