Belmont Stakes: The Scene Leading Up To The Race

By Ryan Mayer CBS Local Sports

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past two weeks, you're probably aware that American Pharoah makes his bid for the Triple Crown today out at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY. He and jockey Victor Espinoza will be opposed by seven other horses in today's race, many of them with fresh legs after not running in the Preakness.

Plenty of conjecture and argument has been made over whether this is finally the horse to end what has been a 37 year drought.  Whether you believe he'll win or not you're more than likely going to tune in to NBC to watch the race.  90,000 are expected to make the trip out to Belmont Park to try and witness history in person.

The Belmont, like the other two legs of the Triple Crown is an all day event. Let's paint the picture for those of you at home who can't make it out to the race.
