Dodger Games Will Be Available To Charter Customers Tuesday

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Charter Communications will officially expand the Los Angeles Dodgers' TV channel, SportsNet LA, on Tuesday to 300,000 of its customers following its purchase of Time Warner Cable.

Televised Dodger games, carried exclusively by Time Warner Cable's SportsNet LA, have been unavailable to most of Southern California since it launched in February 2014. Other Southland cable and satellite services have not been carrying the channel, citing its cost, leaving thousands of Dodger fans unable to watch the team's games.

Charter CEO Tom Rutledge said last week he was committed to offering customers SportsNet LA as soon as possible. He issued a statement Thursday, saying the channel would be offered beginning Tuesday.

"The Dodgers are an iconic franchise and part of the fabric of the community," Rutledge said in his statement. "We are very excited to be bringing the Dodgers back to Charter customers in the L.A. area."

SportsNet LA will be available in standard definition on channel 44 and in HD on channel 789.

Charter announced May 26 it had agreed to purchase Time Warner Cable in a $56.7-billion deal that would make it the largest pay-TV provider in Southern California. Charter also is planning to purchase Bright House Networks, a smaller cable provider, producing a new company with 23.9 million subscribers in 41 states.
