American Heart Association To Offer 'Sidewalk CPR' Courses In SoCal

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Thursday will join with the American Heart Association to offer "Sidewalk CPR" courses here in Southern California.

Officials explained county firefighters and health departments from Los Angeles and Orange County will participate in the event. The courses will be taught over a 10 minute span.

According to paramedics, it only takes five minutes to learn how to keep cardiac arrest victims alive until authorities arrive to help.

Health officials explained, however, about 90 percent of people who suffer from cardiac arrests out-of-hospital die.

The goal for this year's event is to train 10,000 people. In 2014, about 7,000 people received CPR training.
