In Los Angeles, communications managers earn an average annual salary of $102,000, with some securing yearly wages greater than $132,000, according to current data. Since 2012, this enterprising vocation has experienced a steady rate of progression, bolstered by advancing technology.

"Over the past three years, social media has revolutionized the media landscape with greater transparency expected from brands and organizations," said Erin Schanke, an associate communications manager at KIND, a company that manufactures wholesome snacks. "Communications professionals need to stay ahead of the curve by continually educating themselves on emerging digital platforms."

"One way we do this at KIND in L.A. is by supporting local events and individuals in an effort to further our social mission of spreading and inspiring kindness. While doing so, we are able to build stronger ties with our consumers."

"Effective communications managers generate positive brand awareness, help with larger strategic planning drives, and develop relationships between an organization and their key stakeholders."

"Successful managers will need to continue to adapt to an evolving digital age, while staying true to the core fundamentals of communications."

"There are always opportunities to develop additional skill sets and competencies to help maintain a long-lasting career. The social media revolution has blurred the lines among advertising, public relations and traditional marketing. Smart communications professionals are deepening their knowledge across all of these areas."

What is your message to aspiring communications managers?

"I advise them to find their passion. The communications field is about the ability to connect with others on a deeper level. The more they love what they do, the more people will feel that love and authenticity. In turn, companies will want to work with them."
