Suspect Arrested In Deadly Fire At Vacant WeHo Building

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A man suspected of starting a fire at a vacant commercial building in West Hollywood that killed another man was in custody Friday.

Andrew Clark, 35, was arrested on Thursday night and booked on suspicion of murder and arson in the death of Eric Young, 53, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Clark was being held on $1.25 million bail.

Firefighters sent to the 9000 block of Santa Monica Boulevard just before midnight on May 20 found the victim in the burning building, the sheriff's department said.

Authorities say when firefighters made entry to the abandoned building, they located a man who was believed to be homeless and living in the building in serious distress in the hallway.

Young died at a hospital.

The blaze was knocked down in about an hour, and homicide detectives were sent to the scene to conduct an investigation.
