Suspect Hospitalized After Officer-Involved Shooting Outside Hollywood Club

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A suspect was hospitalized after an officer-involved shooting occurred outside a club in Hollywood early Sunday morning.

Authorities say Tegan James Stephens, 33, produced a handgun from a white SUV following a "strained" interaction with three other males in a parking lot near Hollywood Blvd. and Cherokee  Ave. just after 2 a.m.

Officers say Stephens followed the three males, holding the handgun, at which point the officer-involved shooting occurred.

Stephens was wounded and detained as a result of the shooting, and was in surgery early Sunday morning. He was said to be in stable condition on Sunday afternoon.

No police were hurt in the incident, and a handgun was recovered at the scene.

Hollywood Blvd. remained closed Sunday morning between Las Palmas and Whitney Ave.

The incident remained under investigation.
