Lakers Draw 2nd Overall Pick In 2015 NBA Draft Lottery

NEW YORK (CBSLA.com) — The Lakers drew second the overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday, providing hope to the franchise that has been absent over recent, turbulent seasons.

The last time the Lakers drew such a high pick was 1982. LA picked James Worthy with that pick.

It is just the team's fourth time in the lottery.

The Lakers suffered the worst season in their franchise's history in 2014-15, going 21-61.

They had an 11.9% chance to draw the first overall pick this year.

The first overall pick went to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Had the Lakers drawn the 6th or 7th overall pick, they would have lost that pick to the Philadelphia 76ers, due to the trade that originally sent Steve Nash to Los Angeles.

The Lakers' top pick from 2013-14, Julius Randle, was expected to pump some energy back into the stagnant franchise, but he suffered a broken leg during the first game of the season. That broken leg would set the tone for the Lakers' year.

"I told our guys earlier today that I had a real good feeling about tonight," head coach Byron Scott stated. "I hope not to be back here anytime soon, but I'm happy the way things turned out tonight."

Kobe Bryant took to Twitter not long after the lottery draw to share his approval of the pick, along with a less-than-commending sentiment about the Lakers' 2014-15 season.

His Tweet read: "We played like *expletive* all season so it's only right we get the #2 pick HA #lakerluck #goodday".
