Motorcyclist, 20, Suffers Broken Neck, Fractured Skull In Head-On Crash With Car In Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com)  —  Authorities said a 20-year-old motorcyclist sustained major injuries Sunday in a head-on crash with a vehicle in Costa Mesa.

The cyclist's name was withheld. Officials said he is a Costa Mesa resident.

The Costa Mesa man eportedly suffered a broken neck and fractured skull when he crashed his 2004 Suzuki sport motorcycle with a 1998 Cadillac Deville driven by 19-year-old Maya Kolakowski also of Costa Mesa.

Police said just after 2 p.m., the cyclist was going southbound on Fairview Road, approaching Adams Avene. Kolakowski was facing north about to turn left into the Villa Sienna Apartments.

As she began to cross, officials said the cyclist collided with the front of her vehicle. Witnesses said he was speeding.

The cyclist was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for the aforementioned broken bones as well as brain swelling.

Kolakowski cooperated with investigators and officials said she showed no signs of impairment.

The crash remains under investigation.
