Only On 2: Woman Held Hostage Inside Her Home By Known Felon Relates Her Fear

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com)  —  A Riverside woman who was held hostage in her own home Tuesday, spoke out to CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Tom Wait on Friday.

It was an interview that is Only On 2.

"I was scared. I was terrified," the woman related, "I just did what he said."

The unidentified woman is still scared and told Wait she didn't want her face shown.

On Tuesday, she was held hostage -- in her own home -- with police officers just feet away.

But the victim says she was too scared to scream and too scared to run for help.

"He just looked crazy. He just had that look on his face that he was desperate," the victim said.

She says her ordeal began Tuesday afternoon as police swarmed her neighborhood searching for a known felon -- Ignatius "Kermit" Ward.

The 33-year-old mother was doing some chores when she came face-to-face with Ward in her kitchen.

"When he first walked in," she says, "the first thing I noticed was the knife clip on his pocket."

The scene played out in her home, located in the area of University and Chicago.

Officers at times were so close to the victim and suspect she could hear their voices, but she was helpless.

"For the longest time, I don't even know how long, felt like the longest time we were crouched down in my door jam there between my kitchen and my dining room. I was starting to shake and sweat and I was starting to cry and he was staring to get angry because he didn't want the cops to hear [us.]"

Before allegedly breaking into the victim's kitchen, police say they tried to arrest Wardwhen they saw him swallowing drugs.

After several hours police cleared the scene. Ward then ordered the victim to take him to a liquor store. She says after that, he took off.

On a tip, Riverside Police tracked Ward down on Wednesday and found him sleeping in a car.

They arrested him without incident and now he's facing a slew of felony charges.
