2 Dead After Woman Carjacks Ambulance, Collides With Big Rig

FRAZIER PARK (CBSLA.com/AP) — Two people reportedly were killed Wednesday night after an armed woman stole an ambulance and crashed it head-on into a big rig near the 5 Freeway.

Truck driver Richard Reimer heard the explosive sound when the vehicles collided. He said what he saw next was gut-wrenching: "It put me to tears. I sat inside crying, because it scares me, it literally scares me, because there's nothing he could have done. My prayers and thoughts go out to the family of the truck driver."

Kern County fire Capt. Tyler Townsend says firefighters and paramedics with Hall Ambulance Service answered a woman's call around 5:40 p.m. reporting a seizure in the Frazier Park area, north of Santa Clarita.

Townsend says when paramedics arrived they were confronted by an agitated woman who then stole their ambulance at knifepoint.

As authorities tried to locate the stolen ambulance witnesses say they saw the woman driving erratically and as fast as 100 mph.

She was heading eastbound on Frazier Mountain Park Road and collided with a big rig heading westbound as it was turning into Flying J's Truck Stop.

The woman and the driver of the big-rig died at the scene.

Their names haven't been released.

California Highway Patrol investigators are trying to figure out if the woman was suicidal.
