Jeweler Designs Pearls That Can Hold Audio Messages And Play Them Back Via Cellphone

SAN DIMAS (CBSLA.com) — A Southland jeweler has bridged the gap between traditional jewelry and technology with a pearl that can hold audio messages and play them back via cellphone.

Through the Galatea app, a tailored voice message can be recorded and is transferred through wireless technology.

That same message can then be played when the pearl is tapped against a cellphone that has the same app. Pictures can be sent in the same way.

"You can wear this around your neck with the voice of a loved one on it, and that to me is just so amazing," Barbara Moss of Galatea Jewelry said.

Creator Chi Huynh of San Dimas says he believes that life is about memories and created the special pearls with that in mind.

"What you can do is you wear this around your neck and have the voice of a loved one on it and that to me is just so amazing," Huynh told KCAL9's Jennifer Kastner.

"You find love. You want to say that 'I love you' and then when you get married, maybe you want to record your wedding vows. And then when you have a baby, maybe you want to take a picture of your first baby," he said.

Huynh says the pearls are grown in Tahiti, carved in Vietnam and assembled in San Dimas.

The jewelry is sold locally and starts around $350.
