School Official: Missing LMU Student, 19, Found Safe

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  An official with LMU says missing student Austin Bruns has been found safe.

Police on Saturday were asking for the public's help in their search for a missing Loyola Marymount University student last seen the night before.

Bruns, 19, was last seen on campus around 5:30 p.m having dinner with friends., according to a LAPD spokesperson and friends of the missing man.

It was unclear where the missing student was.

The teenager's father, Scott Bruns, has come to the Los Angeles area from Sacramento to assist with efforts to locate his son, a freshman film student. His friends said he is also active in campus ministry.

The Department of Public Safety at LMU assisted in the search.

CBS2's Adrianna Weingold said Bruns had a phone argument with his parents Friday and hasn't been seen since.

Friends and students scoured the campus trying to find him.

Investigators say "several personal items" were found in his dorm room at LMU.

"He was upset with his parents," said Lt. Lydia Leos with the LAPD, "but it is unusual for a student to leave his wallet, his phone, his computer and not tell anyone where he was going. So that's why the concern."

He also didn't take his medication with him although police said his condition is not life-threatening.

Saturday evening friends planned a prayer vigil on the campus.

The Bruns family released a statement Saturday. It read, "We would like to thank the Loyola Marymount Community, LMU public safety team, and LAPD for the the overwhelming display of love and support. We are profoundly sad and heartbroken that we are unable to locate Austin at this time. We want him to know how much we love him and want to see him safe. If anyone has any information regarding Austin or his whereabouts, please let us know. We love you buddy."
