Arrest Made In Garden Grove Residential Burglary, Attempted Rape

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com) — Police have arrested a 23-year-old Garden Grove man for residential burglary and attempted rape.

Noe Gonzalez, 23, was taken into custody after a resident in the 12500 block of Volkwood Street reported a burglary shortly before midnight Friday.

Officers arrived and found the suspect had entered through an unlocked sliding glass door.

Investigators determined the suspect was inside the residence for approximately 30 to 40 minutes before he was detected and had walked into the bedroom of a young girl and made physical contact with her.

According to police, the girl confronted the suspect and he fled from her bedroom. She then told her father, who called the police department.

"Based upon interviews we did, and our investigation, we do believe his intent was to possibly commit rape,"  said Lt. Tom DeRe of the Garden Grove Police Department.

While investigating the crime scene, one of the officers walked to his police car and heard a disturbance from the home directly next door to the first burglary.

Two residents exited and said a suspect was in their house. The homeowners provided the same description of the suspect as the first victims.

Garden Grove police officers established a perimeter and requested assistance of a K-9 and helicopter.

While doing yard-to-yard searches, the suspect was located hiding in the backyard of a nearby residence.

The suspect failed to comply and a Tustin Police K-9 was used to take him into custody.

CBS2's Cristy Fajardo said Gonzalez attempted to strangle the dog.

The suspect fought with the K-9 and a Garden Grove police officer deployed a taser to make the arrest.

The suspect was treated for his injuries and transported to the Orange County Jail.

Saturday evening, Fajardo spoke to the girl and the next door neighbor who helped police nab Gonzalez. Neither wanted to appear on camera.

"I felt a rush of adrenalin," said the teen about being allegedly accosted in her bedroom. "And then I was kind of angry."

The girl said she heard her bedroom door open and thought it was her father.

"I said ;What?' and he didn't respond," she says.

About a half hour later the man came back and locked her door.

She says the suspect started feeling around her bed. hat is when her instincts kicked in.

"I knew it wasn't my dad," she says, "so I asked, 'Who are you?' I tried to open the door, and he got in my way, so I pushed him."

At this point, her father woke up and Gonzalez ran out the back door, police said.

The neighbor said she found Gonzalez in her kitchen.

"I asked him, 'Who are you? and what do you want? What do you want? Then I yelled my husband's name."
