Fire Hydrant Ruptures In North Hollywood Crash

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A vehicle collision sheared a fire hydrant in North Hollywood Wednesday evening, shutting down traffic on Riverside Drive as water gushed onto the roadway.

L.A. City Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the scene at Riverside and Colfax Avenue around 9:35 p.m.

The block was closed to traffic as responders attempted to shut off the rushing water, which continued to flood the street after 11 p.m.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power told CBS2/KCAL9 the hydrant was sheared in a car accident.

Further information was not immediately available.
