Suspect Sought In Latest Deadly Palms Shooting

PALMS (CBSLA.com) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Palms just a few days after several shootings in the area left a man dead and injured four others.

Officers responded around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a gunshot near the 3300 block of Mentone Avenue, the LAPD reports. While searching an alley, they discovered a man's body with a gunshot wound to the chest. He has not been identified.

Police searched for two suspects, but no description was immediately available.

Two possible vehicles reportedly were involved in the shooting, including either a blue or black Dodge truck with furniture in the back and a two- or four-door vehicle.

Both vehicles were last seen headed north on Overland Avenue.

The area has seen its share of crime this week. Several shootings were reported Thursday at Woodbine Park, near Woodbine Street and Vinton Avenue. Police have not released a motive for those attacks, although they have arrested a man. James Pickens, 35, was taken into custody Friday and charged with murder. He was being held on $1 million bail.

Homicide detectives ask that anyone with information call (213) 382-9470.
