DC Comics Fans Set World Record For 'Super' Gathering

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — It's not uncommon to see super heroes walking the streets of Hollywood, posing with tourists for pictures at well-known landmarks.

But on Saturday hundreds of caped crusaders and masked men flooded the heart of Tinseltown. Under the latex and body armor were fans hoping  to set a new record for the largest gathering of people dressed as DC Comics superheroes.

There was Wonder Woman, The Flash, Superman and The Justice League. There were also super-babies and super-dogs.

Fans were told they could only come dressed as heroes, not villains.

"I would like to say I was in a world record book," said Riverside resident Marco Torres, who drove with his family for more than an hour to join the event.

"It's something they can connect with, something positive. Everybody wants to be the hero. It's a fantasy," Christopher Torres said.

They stood for five minutes in one place to set the record.

But Hollywood isn't the only city taking part. Fans from around the world strapped on their gear.

The record started in Australia 24 hours earlier, and then heroes gathered in 12 other cities all over the globe before ending in Los Angeles.

Torres said, "We just wanted to be a part of it. It sounded like a lot of fun." And he said it certainly was.

It's a lesson as old as comics themselves: heroes come in costumes, big and small, for it's their heart that can change the world.
