Brush Fire Forces Evacuations Of Homes In Fullerton

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A Saturday afternoon brush fire near  St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton prompted the evacuation of homes in a nearby neighborhood as well as the Fullerton Sports Complex.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at the rear portion of the Brea dam, near Harbor Boulevard, shortly before 1:30 p.m., authorities said. By 3 p.m., evacuations had been ordered for several nearby residential streets, including Poppy and Sunflower streets and Marion Boulevard, but not the hospital.

Flames got within about 100 feet of some homes, officials said.

Metro Net Fire reported at least 10 engines, two fire trucks and a helicopter were committed to the scene.

KCAL9's Laurie Perez said the brush fire was fully-contained by 6 p.m.

Officials were still monitoring for hot spots at 8 p.m.

About 12 acres burned. No injuries were reported.
