Caught On Camera: Group Savagely Beats El Monte Bicyclist In Apparent Random Attack

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Police are searching for a group of suspects who were caught on camera savagely beating a bicyclist in El Monte.

The 36-year-old victim was riding his bicycle on Elliot Avenue near Tyler Avenue around midnight April 6, when the attack suspected by police as random occurred.

The victim is seen on the tape attempting to escape the attackers but could not get away.

"Somebody was beaten and stabbed just for riding a bicycle on the street," El Monte police Sgt. Roger Cobian said.

The attackers, who the victim says he had never seen before, pulled up in a Honda Civic. Three of the five individuals in the car jumped out and chased the victim, "and began to kick, punch and stab him," police said.

The victim suffered 15 puncture wounds and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Residents say they are wary of riding bicycles alone on the street since the attack.

The victim's identity has not been released.

Anyone with information on the attack is asked to contact El Monte police.
