Police Pursuit Of Murder Suspect Concludes In Irvine

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Police were in pursuit of a vehicle traveling at high speeds through Orange County Monday.

Police say the suspect, identified as Jimison Coleman, was wanted for a murder in Dallas, Texas.

The pursuit began in Buena Park, at a Motel 6, after a police officer noticed that the license plate on Coleman's vehicle matched one that Dallas Police were looking for, in connection with a 2014 murder.

When police approached him at the motel, Coleman drove off.

Coleman, driving a silver Mercedes at speeds as high as 80 miles per hour, was not complying with commands as he attempted to evade police on the I-5 freeway.

At least four marked units of the Buena Park Police Department were involved in the pursuit.

After transitioning to the CA-91 eastbound freeway, Coleman then exited and took to surface streets in Orange County.

Coleman came to a stop  at the intersection of Barranca Parkway and Armstrong Avenue in Irvine. He exited his vehicle at 6:23 p.m., at which point he appeared to be complying with police instructions, crawling on his hands and knees towards the police line.

"We didn't want him to stand up," one officer said. "During the pursuit, several times, he was seen reaching under the seat, and if he was armed, we want to put him in as much of a disadvantage as possible, so we had him crawl back to us."

He then laid down on his stomach, and was taken into custody at 6:27 p.m.
