Hollywood Boulevard Shuts Down For Van Halen Concert
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — You may not be able to drive down a section of Hollywood Boulevard on Monday, but there's a chance you might be able to "Jump".
KNX 1070's Margaret Carrero reports the boulevard is shut down between Highland and Orange in order for crews to set up a special performance by 80s rock group Van Halen.
The concert - which will be broadcast over two nights on Mar. 30-31 on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" - marks Van Halen's first U.S. television performance with original lead singer David Lee Roth.
Roth will join band mate Eddie Van Halen to perform some of the band's biggest hits, including "Jump", "Panama" and "Hot For Teacher", ahead of a planned North American tour later this year.
Die-hard fans like Mike were willing to travel from as far as Phoenix to see the veteran rock stars up close.
"I've seen them many, many times over the years, and when I saw they shut down Hollywood Boulevard to play somewhere near, I had to come out and see them," he said.
But local residents are afraid the concert could make traffic around Hollywood and Highland worse than it already is.
"It always makes traffic just a madhouse," said one man.
Van Halen is expected to take the stage around 7:30 p.m. Officials say Hollywood Boulevard should reopen by 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The band's North American tour will kick off July 5 in Seattle and wrap up on Oct. 2 at the Hollywood Bowl.
