Ex-Boyfriend Sentenced To Life In Prison In OC Woman's Slaying

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A 26-year-old man was sentenced to prison Friday for murdering his former girlfriend in an alleyway.

According to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, Luis Antonio Garcia Morales of Santa Ana was ordered to spend his life in state prison without the possibility of parole.

During the evening of Nov. 13, 2012, Morales pretended to be someone else and arranged to meet with his former girlfriend, 21-year-old Maria Isabel Cerrillo.

According to police, he met Cerrillo in an alleyway in Santa Ana and repeatedly stabbed her before he fled. Cerrillo succumbed to her injuries.

On the morning of Nov. 15, 2012, Morales was arrested by the Santa Ana Police Department.

Morales was found guilty by a jury on Nov. 24, 2014, of one felony count of special circumstance murder by lying in wait, according to the District Attorney's Office.

A sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon was also found to be true, the District Attorney's Office added.
