Firefighters Gain Ground On Small Brush Fire In Valencia

VALENCIA (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters have gained ground on a small brush fire that erupted Monday afternoon in Valencia.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department says the department received a call around 3:49 p.m. of a brush fire near Magic Mountain Parkway and Avignon Drive.

Firefighting units were still accessing the acreage although they believe it has spread to about two acres.

Sky 9's Stu Mundel said a plume of smoke was billowing over a nearby apartment complex.

"A number of Sheriff's Department officials in this area notifying residents that this fire is very close to their homes," Mundel said.

He added that other fire trucks were arriving as well to assist in the firefight.

According to Mundel, the fire was burning inside a riverbed and was not threatening homes in the area.

No further information was available.
