One Shoe Fills Your Closet With Choices Thanks To E-Ink Technology

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Imagine owning one pair of shoes that will match your every outfit or mood.

It could be a matter of customizing one pair.

A new start-up company says they're taking shoes to a whole new level with a high-tech design that allows you to change a pair's color and pattern at the touch of a button.

The Volvorii Smart Shoe uses e-ink technology, similar to what's found in e-readers, on a strip embedded in the upper of either a black or white leather shoe.

An iPhone app controls what's displayed on the strip so in a matter of seconds it displays a solid color or a pattern. Currently, the look is limited to white, black and grey tones, but they plan on expanding the selection.

Developers are looking into having the shoes even give a foot massage.

Wallen Mphepö, CEO of iShüu Technologies, says the company is trying to launch the shoe worldwide.

He spoke to CBS2/KCAL9 via Skype in Lithuania, where the government has offered tax incentives for the high-tech start-up to launch.

He says developers never realized how much interest the concept would generate.

It's an idea that may sweep fashion, allowing buyers the customization they want without the expense.

IShüu Technologies has launched a crowd-funding campaign on Indigogo and hopes to raise $50,000 to take the shoe to market.

The company is offering their peep-toe style, their "Timeless" pair, to those who pledge $249 on the fundraising site. The $149 and $199 packages have already sold out.

They plan on rolling out the women's shoe wear with a retail price of $499.

If the shoe proves popular enough, they may expand to the men's market.
