Dog Owner Says She's Heartbroken After Death Of Puppy During Playtime At Pet Hotel

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A dog owner says she's heartbroken after the death of her French bulldog puppy while at a pet hotel in Hollywood.

As KCAL9's Brittney Hopper reports, the puppy named Boggs died Sunday allegedly after an altercation with a larger dog, a pit bull mix, during playtime at Pooch Hotel.

Boggs' owner told Hopper she's too upset to talk on camera but posted a picture of Boggs online with a caption: "The brightest light in my life went out last night. My baby Boggs passed away yesterday
after an unfortunate, avoidable incident … "

Word of the dog's death traveled quickly on social media and many who are outraged have started the campaign "Justice for Boggs."

"I can't fathom an accident like that happening," said Chris Sherman, who takes his dogs to Pooch Hotel. Sherman said he's had only good experiences.

Pooch Hotel released the following statement to KCAL9:

"All of us at Pooch Hotel and the Petco family are deeply saddened by Boggs' tragic passing. While we are in the process of thoroughly investigating the circumstances around Boggs' death, we can confirm that the incident took place during supervised play and that both dogs had interacted without incident during at least two other play sessions."

Other dog owners told Hopper they were informed by Pooch that the hotel previously separated dogs based on temperament but now does so based on size.

Pooch Hotel, owned by Petco, is a dog boarding, day care and grooming boutique with locations throughout Los Angeles.
