LA Mayor To Talk Business Development In DC

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Mayor Eric Garcetti is a man on the move.

After making an appearance at the South-by-Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, to talk about the merging of the tech and entertainment industries, Garcetti jetted back home Sunday to help kick off the L.A. Marathon, only to hit the road again Monday for the nation's capitol.

Garcetti will be in Washington, D.C., to lead a delegation of local business and civic leaders as part of the annual L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce's Access trip.

The Mayor is expected to meet with a number of federal officials to advocate for L.A.'s federal priorities, including trade, transportation and infrastructure funding, and the economy, according to officials.

Garcetti also told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO he also plans to do a little fence-mending after the West Coast port slowdown that left many retailers and other businesses in the lurch.

"We've gotta remind people on the East Coast, we can still get you your goods about 10 days more quickly than if you go through the Panama Canal," he said.

About 180 business and civic leaders - including U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein - will comprise the bipartisan delegation for the the three-day lobbying trip, according to Garcetti's office.
