Authorities Investigate Death Of 4-Month-Old Boy In Bakersfield

KERN COUNTY (CBSLA.com) — Deputies investigated the circumstances surrounding the death of a 4-month-old boy Monday who was found unresponsive in a motel room in Bakersfield.

According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent around 6:06 a.m. to the Country Inn, located in the 1000 block of South Union Avenue, for report of a baby not breathing.

When deputies arrived, they located the infant and transported him to Mercy Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed the infant had been living in the motel room with his mother, father and three siblings.

Detectives explained evidence found at the scene led them to believe the death may be suspicious.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of the infant's death, officials added.

The investigation is ongoing.
