U.S. Marshals Shoot At Fugitive Who Tried To Run Them Over In Carson

CARSON (CBSLA.com) — U.S. Marshals shot at a fugitive who tried to run them over in Carson Wednesday, prompting a brief perimeter search.

The officer-involved shooting happened at about 10 a.m. in the area of 221st and Grace in Carson, U.S. Marshal spokeswoman Laura Vega said.

The marshals were in the area looking for Keith Leon Smith, who is wanted for a supervised release violation and a probation violation, when they to stop Smith. The suspect allegedly tried to run over one of them, and one of the marshals opened fire.

Smith then fled the area in his vehicle, Vega said.

It's not known if the suspect was hit, Vega said. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies assisted the marshals in setting up a perimeter to search the area.

The suspect, who was only described as male and white, was last seen in a gray minivan, possibly a Toyota Sienna.
